Hunt the Following Animals

You are here: General Information

Most of the areas out here, that you will be hunting on are a combination of rolling plains and hills. You should expect shots from as close as 100 yards to 300 yards and perhaps under some circumstances even over 300 yards. It is critical that you know where your gun shoots and that you have practiced at these longer distances. The first time you take a shot at a measured 300 yards, it seems a long way in the distance. Yet most calibres in the 30-05 to 7mm Magnum class are more than capable of cleanly taking animals at these distances.

Given the quality of guns and ammuntion these days, 200 - 300 yard shots are really not that difficult, if you are confident in your rifle and know where it hits. Sights, specifically your scope are a big part of the equation. While a quality 4X is adequate, you will find it is much easier if you equip your rifle with a 3X - 9X (or 2X - 7X) scope. Even a 3,5X - 10X is a suitable choice but, anything much larger than this is unnecessary. Remember most of all, having confidence in your rifle and yourself - both of which come from practice is the biggest single factor in being able to make hits.
